that lame excuse is from Liverpool gaffer himself..... Fergie should not blame the pitch and referee since he decided to rest players like ferdinand who is important to the MU defence.....

Chelsea Finish Top Andriy Shevchenko and Shaun Wright-Phillips ensured Chelsea finished top of their Champions League group following a comfortable 2-0 victory over Levski Sofia at Stamford Bridge. The Ukraine international, who hasn't enjoyed the most profitable of times since his £30million arrival in the summer, opened his European account for the Blues with a 27th minute strike. Wright-Phillips then came off the bench to add gloss to the scoreline with a superb second and his first of the season, as Chelsea secured top spot in Group A at a canter. Shevchenko sent out a statement of intent inside the opening 90 seconds when he was only denied by the acrobatics of Bozhidar Mitrev after the Levski goalkeeper had recovered from being rounded by Arjen Robben to pull off a superb save. But the former AC Milan striker was not to be denied and he popped up in the box just before the half-hour to latch on to Frank Lampard's pass and guide a shot into the far corner with the outside of his right boot. Cedric Bardon was inches away from a shock equaliser when he met Hristo Yoyov's cross with a volley that thundered just over the bar as the visitors threatened for the first time after 35 minutes. But Chelsea always looked in control and after Shevchenko and Didier Drogba had come close to doubling the advantage either side of half-time, the killer second duly arrived seven minutes from time. Ricardo Carvalho stole the ball deep in Chelsea territory and exchanged passes with Wright-Phillips, before the diminutive winger picked his spot in the far corner and executed a superb low strike from the edge of the penalty area. Michael Essien almost added a third five minutes from time with a powerful header from a Lampard corner which Mitrev tipped over the bar. At the other end Hilario pulled off a spectacular one-handed save to deny Richard Eromoigbe with a long-range strike, but by then Chelsea had done more than enough to wrap up the points on a comfortable night at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has warned his side not to under-estimate the quality of opposition they will face in the knockout stages of the Champions League despite finishing top of Group A. The Blues' 2-0 victory over Levski Sofia at Stamford Bridge confirmed their passage as group winners, but Mourinho has acknowledged that Chelsea will have to be at their best to progress any further in the competition. He said: "Levski played okay. They gave us a game and it was good because I could play some players who didn't have a lot of minutes in their legs." Referring to the latter stages of the competition, he added: "As a start, the only thing we know is we don't play Barcelona or any of the English teams. But we can play Real Madrid, Roma or Inter Milan so it's going to be tough. "We will play the second game at home. That can be a little, little advantage."

Liverpool Lose In Istanbul ;D ;D ;D Liverpool made an unsuccessful return to Istanbul as they lost 3-2 to Galatasaray despite two goals from veteran striker Robbie Fowler. Rafa Benitez opted to rest a number of first-team regulars, with the Reds already safely through to the knockout stages of the competition. The opening minutes of the game saw little action in either goalmouth, with neither side having much to play for. However, the game burst into life after 22 minutes as Craig Bellamy found space down the left and his ball into the area was bundled home from close range by Fowler. Within two minutes it was 1-1 as Xabi Alonso's poor pass was intercepted by Necati Ates, who raced clear to beat Jerzy Dudek with a low shot. Three minutes later Gala were 2-1 in front as a corner from the right was only half-cleared and Okan Buruk volleyed home superbly from 25 yards out with his right foot. The home side almost got a third right on half-time as Dudek blocked Sabri's shot with his legs after some sloppy play in defence. Gala went close again eight minutes into the second half as Ergun's free-kick in from the left was headed against the far post by Umit Karan, with Dudek well beaten. Eleven minutes from time it was 3-1 to the home side as substitute Mehmet Guvan got clear on the right and his cutback into the area gave fellow replacement Sasa Ilic an easy finish. That was game over for the Reds, but they at least kept fighting until the final minute, when Jermaine Pennant found space on the right flank and his stand-up cross was headed home at the far post by Fowler. Reds skipper for the night, Carragher told ITV Sport: "We came here and we wanted to win, but there were a lot of young lads out there and it was a great experience for them. "Of course we're disappointed we got beaten. "The Champions League is the top level and they showed that they're a good side. They gave us a scare at Anfield when we supposedly had our full team out." Even with GOD HELP on the two goal ...but with stamford bridge lady luck not around ....no one can help... ;D but this is just a second string team.....

Fergie: United have 'outstanding chance'
Sir Alex Ferguson claimed Manchester United have 'an outstanding chance' of reaching the Champions League final after Wayne Rooney inspired a sensational 3-2 win against semi-final opponents AC Milan at Old Trafford.
Manchester United's PFA player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo fires off a shot.
Trailing and in trouble after his injury-decimated side had been ripped apart twice by Milan's brilliant Brazilian Kaka, Rooney came to the rescue.
First the England striker drove home an equaliser after Paul Scholes had supplied an audacious chipped pass, then, in injury-time, Rooney strode onto Ryan Giggs' through ball and beat Milan keeper Dida with a stunning first-time finish to seal a memorable victory.
It means United, who opened the scoring when Dida was unable to keep out Cristiano Ronaldo's header, must now avoid defeat in the San Siro next Wednesday to confirm an all-English final in Athens on May 23.
And, while Ferguson accepts it will not be easy, he believes his side are capable of delivering.
'We have an outstanding chance now,' said the Scot.
'With the speed of our game, I believe we will score in Italy. Whether it will be enough I don't know.
'It will not be easy - but it will not be easy for them either.'
Largely overlooked this season as team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo has grabbed all the headlines, Rooney muscled his way back onto centre-stage in magnificent fashion.
Scholes may earn most of the plaudits with his assist for Rooney's first but no-one could deny the sheer brilliance of the Merseysider's second.
'It was an incredible hit,' enthused Ferguson.
'He didn't take a touch on it, just hit it first time. It was a brilliant goal.
'On an occasion like tonight, we needed our big players to hit the heights.'
Aside from Rooney's monumental contribution, Ronaldo, who was credited with United's fourth-minute opener even though Dida touched it in after the winger's fierce header had looped up off his head, and Darren Fletcher were also superb.
'I don't think anyone expected us to fold when we fell behind but Kaka did have two chances to get a third for them, which he didn't take, and that gave us a lifeline,' said Ferguson.
'But you need a bit of luck on nights like this and I am delighted with the way we came back.
'The second goal gave us the incentive to push forward again and once we started to do that, there was only going to be one winner.'
Ferguson was critical of his side's defending for both Milan goals.
Gabriel Heinze was caught napping by Kaka's surging run for the equaliser but the second involved a catastrophic penalty box collision between the Argentina star and Patrice Evra that allowed the Milan star a free run on goal before he beat Edwin van der Sar in clinical fashion.
It was part of a bad night for Evra, whose booking rules him out of the second leg, leaving Ferguson facing another patch-up job unless Rio Ferdinand can somehow manage to overcome the groin injury he aggravated against Middlesbrough at the weekend.
'If Rio doesn't make it, I do have the option of playing Darren Fletcher at right-back, although given the way he played tonight, I would prefer not to do that.'
Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti accepted United were marginal favourites to get through. But he is still confident about his side's chances of completing a European Cup semi-final hat-trick over the Red Devils after previous wins in 1958 and 1969.
'Manchester United probably do have a slight advantage,' he said.
'We are disappointed about their winning goal because I felt we had the match pretty much in hand.
'It seemed we were going to get a good result but that goal has complicated matters.'
Ancelotti confirmed Gennaro Gattuso, whom Ferguson claimed got involved in a row with a steward after the final whistle, would be fit for next week despite suffering a bang on the foot.
However, Paolo Maldini, who was substituted at half-time with a knee problem, is more of a doubt.
'It is difficult to say whether the result would have been the same if those two had stayed on the pitch but quite clearly, you are going to miss players of that experience,' he said.

Lucky escape for MU, look at the horrible defence ie. Evra and Heinze. Now with the french suspended for the San siro game, looks like MU has to play a midfielder in the role. Well, i would prefer Liverpool to meet MU in the finals but who knws what Kaka could do?
