Striker Baptista to leave Arsenal Julio Baptista in action for Arsenal Baptista scored four goals in a Carling Cup game at Liverpool Arsenal have decided against turning forward Julio Baptista's loan deal from Real Madrid into a permanent transfer.
The 25-year-old Brazilian scored 10 goals in 35 appearances but found the net only three times in 24 Premiership appearances in his season at Arsenal.
"Arsenal have told me they are not able to buy me and so all I can do is return to Real Madrid," Baptista told Spanish newspaper Marca.
Baptista joined Arsenal, with Jose Antonio Reyes moving the other way
The Spanish season has not yet finished and no decision has been made on Reyes' future.
Baptista, who scored four goals in Arsenal's 6-3 Carling Cup win against Liverpool at Anfield in January, added: "I have enjoyed my season with Arsenal and in England.
"I adapted well. I didn't play much at first but finished much better. The first year is very difficult.
"The English league is very strong and very competitive with great teams. Manchester United and Chelsea are very strong and it is difficult to compete against their great squads."
Baptista joined Real from Sevilla for an initial fee of £13.8m in July 2005.

A return after 5 years absences Pearson Strike Promotes Rams Billy Davies Stephen Pearson chose the perfect moment to score his first goal for Derby County as his 61st minute strike sent the Rams back into the Premier League after a 1-0 play-off final victory over West Bromwich Albion. The Scotland international - a £750,000 purchase from Celtic during the January transfer window - slid home the winner from Giles Barnes' centre midway through the second half as Derby ended a five-year exile from the top-flight in an entertaining final at Wembley. Derby boss Billy Davies surprisingly opted to start Paul Peschisolido in attack instead of Jon Macken and the veteran striker should have put his side into a 10th minute lead. Steven Howard flicked on a long ball from the goalkeeper but Peschisolido hurriedly stabbed a weak effort straight at Dean Kiely. At the other end, Tyrone Mears saved the Rams as he executed a perfectly-timed tackle to nudge the ball away from Jason Koumas in the penalty area to end a mazy run from the Albion dangerman. Zoltan Gera was denied as his goalbound volley struck the body of Jay McEveley in the six-yard box as Derby held on at times during a first-half bossed by Tony Mowbray's side. Kevin Phillips was next to try his luck in the 44th minute as he grazed the crossbar with a rising shot from the edge of the penalty area following a neat move led by Diomansy Kamara and Gera. Derby grew in confidence after the interval and Kiely produced a breath-taking save to palm Matty Oakley's close-range snap-shot over the crossbar on the hour-mark. And one minute later Pearson struck to settle the match as he slid the ball home from six yards after beating marker Paul McShane to substitute Barnes' low centre from the right. West Brom launched wave after wave of attacks in the closing minutes but Bywater wasn't seriously tested as time ticked away on the Baggies' dream of an immediate return to the Premier League. Even when they did force a glimpse of goal, Mears was again in the right place at the right time in the 86th minute to nudge the ball away from Darren Carter with a perfectly-timed tackle in the penalty area.

Reds make double swoop
Liverpool have completed the double capture of Hungarian duo Krisztian Nemeth and Andras Simon.
Nemeth, 18, and Simon, 17 were both part of the Hungary squad at last year's UEFA Under-17 Championship and have been signed by Reds boss Rafael Benitez from club side MTK Hungaria.
Both players are strikers, although Nemeth can also be employed as an attacking midfielder, and the pair will be added to the Reds' reserve ranks for next season.
Meanwhile, Jermaine Pennant has revealed his disappointment at missing out on a call up to the England squad for the friendly with Brazil on Friday and next week's Euro 2008 qualifier in Estonia.
"I'd have hoped I was knocking on the England door because if you are not knocking on the door after playing in a Champions League final for Liverpool then there must be something wrong," he told the club's official website. "The Champions League has been good for me as a player and I wasn't at all fazed to have played in the final.
"It would have been a great pick up to be selected by England so I'm desperately disappointed. "After a few problems, the last season was a real turnaround and to have played in the Champions League final and finish third in the Premiership, I couldn't have expected anymore.
"Being picked for the England games would have been a good way to end the season."

ive Premier League clubs have been named by Lord Stevens as having breached transfer regulations. Chelsea, Newcastle United, Bolton Wanderers, Middlesbrough and Portsmouth have all been named by the former Metropolitan Police commissioner in his final report to the Premier League. [+]

EPL clubs r really crazy..now
Bent snub leaves Magnusson mystified
Chairman Eggert Magnusson has revealed his despair at the 11th-hour collapse of Darren Bent's £17million transfer to West Ham.
The England striker looked set to become the ambitious club's biggest ever signing when current employers Charlton accepted the Hammers bid, which would have seen Hayden Mullins going to The Valley.
But Bent decided against a move to Upton Park - a decision which appears to put Tottenham in pole position for his signature - and infuriated Magnusson in the process.

Sven vows to be prudent He is rubbing his hands becos he could not believe that is still wanted... ;D ;D Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has promised to be prudent in the transfer market and claims he will only sign new players if they are 'right' for the club. Eriksson has already landed Rolando Bianchi from Reggina for £8.8million and Gelson Fernandes from FC Sion since taking the reins at Eastlands earlier in the month. But the former England coach insists he will not spend rashly in the transfer market despite being handed a reported £50million kitty by new owner Thaksin Shinawatra. "It is not like going to the supermarket and picking a player off the shelf," Eriksson told the Manchester Evening News. "We are making enquiries all the time about players but it is sometimes a slow process with agents, managers and chief executives all involved in the process. "It depends what kind of players we can get as to how many we bring in, but we will not spend for the sake of it. "They have to be the right players for Manchester City." Eriksson has been linked with moves for Charlton Athletic defender Luke Young and unsettled Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe in recent days.
