Berbatov set for showdown with Spurs boss Ramos
BERBATOV 2 MU..WOW>>
MIDDLESBROUGH: Dimitar Berbatov will hold showdown talks with Juande Ramos this week to discuss his long term future at Tottenham.
The Bulgarian international was a surprise omission from Ramos’ starting line-up for the 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough on Saturday when the Spanish manager took charge of his second game following Martin Jol’s dismissal.
Berbatov is said to be unhappy at his role in the side and being left out at the Riverside will not have done much to improve his mood. He replaced Jermaine Defoe with just over 30 minutes remaining but never looked interested and failed to make an impression.
The latest setback will fuel further speculation that Berbatov, who joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen last year, is poised to leave White Hart Lane when the January transfer window opens unless Ramos assures him he has an integral part to play in his plans to rebuild the side.
Premier League champions Manchester United have been linked with Berbatov and Alex Ferguson is bound to be interested in making a move should he be encouraged that the forward wants to leave the London club.
Ramos has stated that he doesn’t have an issue with Berbatov and wants to keep him, but the player needs to know where he stands with Ramos spoiled for choice when it comes to strikers.
Ramos’ assistant Gus Poyet insisted there was no ulterior motive behind the decision to leave out Berbatov and Robbie Keane but did admit no single player was more important than the club.
Poyet said: “It was just a case of Juande making the decision because he wanted two different players up front. There was nothing behind that.” – AFP
